:: Data Sheet Basics
█ Data sheet basics
The data sheet window contains several
new elements: status box, edit window,
scroll bars, etc. They are explained in
the following sections.
█ Status box
This box shows the currently selected
block of data sheet. For example,
"C4R3-C8R7" means that the current sheet
selected block is from the fourth column
and the third row to the eighth column and
the seventh row.
█ Edit window
The Edit window area is an input-line
box where you can type in data and text.
The OK button and Cancel button are used
in conjunction with the Edit window.
OK Button: Click this button to accept
the contents of the Edit window in the
active cell (the one that is
highlighted).
Cancel Button: Click this button to
abort any edit action in the Edit
window and put the original contents
back in the Edit window.
█ Scroll bars
There are two scroll bars - horizontal
and vertical. The horizontal scroll bar
controls column movement while the vertical
scroll bar controls row movement.
█ Columns and rows
The data sheet is organized by columns
and rows of cells. A cell is where a data
number is stored and displayed. A column
is an array of cells. In TechPlot, all
mathematical transformations and
statistical analyses are based on columns
of data. A row is a collections of cells
in horizontal direction. Rows are only
used internally for managing and editing
sheet data.
Column Name: Since TechPlot does
mathematical calculations based on
columns, the column names become
important references. Each column has
a unique name. The default name for a
column is 'Column'+Number, where
'Number' is the current column number.
For example, the third column's default
name is 'Column3'.
Row Number: This is the left-most
column. It shows the position of
numbers in a column.
Active Cell: The active cell is the one
that is highlighted. The value of the
active cell is shown in the Edit
window. Only the value of the
currently active cell can be edited.
█ Moving the active cell around the
data sheet
You can use either keyboard or mouse to
move a cell around in the data sheet. The
current active cell is highlighted.
Using the keyboard:
· The up (-) and down (_) arrow keys
move up and down by one row. When it
reaches the first row, it will move
to the column title and the selection
becomes one column.
· The left (¬) and right (r) arrow keys
move left and right by one column.
When the cell reaches the first
column, it will move to the row
number 'cell' and the selection
becomes one row.
· If the current selection is one
column (row), then when you use
left (down) or right (up) arrow key,
then movement will be one column
(row) by one column (row).
· You can also use the Sheet | GoTo
command to specify a cell position
and move to that position.
Using the mouse:
· Just click the mouse button when the
mouse cursor is pointing at the cell
position you want to move to.
· When you click on a column title, the
whole column will be selected.
· When you click on a row number, the
whole row will be selected.
· Click 'ALL' to select the entire data
sheet.
